An oil painting by Riley Geddings
This artist has painted a Great Blue Heron landing on Lake Butler in Florida.
"SMOOTH LANDING"
This original, signed, oil on canvas nautical scene was painted in
August, 2005, and was signed by the artist, R.Geddings.
As you can see, the artist has captured the rich colors of Lake Butler in Florida
complete with lovely reflections and water lillies. Note the native Florida
Great Blue Heron in the process of landing - hence the title "Smooth Landing" !
A Note of Interest:
The Butler Chain (aka the Windemere Chain) is made up of nine interconnected lakes
that cover an area of 4720 acres. The Chain of Lakes was formed as a result of a
typical Florida occurrence known as "karst topography" when the limestone (found
under the majority of Florida soil) is slowly dissolved by water to form sinkholes.
A series of sinkholes, formed over a long period of time, created what is now called
the Butler Chain of Lakes that reach depths of 30 to 50 feet.
This chain of lakes is one of the most protected fresh-water systems in the State of
Florida where wildlife abounds and many species of birds make their homes - including
the graceful Florida Great Blue Heron shown above.
